For this assignment, read the following articles: FARRELL – ‘Effects of Organizational Factors On Use of Juvenile Practices’ GIBLIN – ‘Using Police Officers to Enhance the Supervision of Juvenile Probationers: An Evaluation of the Anchorage CAN Program’ NORRIS – ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit: Evaluating a Midwestern Teen Court’ Identify the type of method/research design used by the researchers in each paper (being sure to follow the learning materials with respect to terminology, organization, style, and formatting).

• In your document, describe the method used in each study, noting that the study may involve more than one method.

• Be specific (i.e., if a survey, whether online, face-to-face, mail, etc.; if experimental, what type—Quasi, Before-After, etc.; if Qualitative, whether observational, unobtrusive content analysis, etc. Note if original research or secondary data analysis.)

• Be concise; about five sentences for each study should be sufficient. (Answer in complete sentences.)

Directions (Overview) In this assignment, you will read three scholarly articles and identify the method(s)/design used in each. Prior to attempting this assignment, view the PowerPoint, read chapters 7-11 Bachman and Schutt (and consult Appendices A and B as necessary). Watch the assigned video (How to identify a quantitative research design).

1. Read the three articles listed below by clicking on the “eReserves” link in the navigation menu in Blackboard Learn.

• Norris, M., Twill, S., Kim, C. (2010). ‘Smells like Teen Spirit: Evaluating a Midwestern Teen Court.’ Crime and Delinquency, 57, 199-221.

Paper Requirements Your paper should be typed, paginated, and double-spaced using a standard font (e.g., Times New Roman) with one inch margins. It must be comprised of complete sentences (no listing) and follow APA Style guidelines. Be sure to provide appropriate citation if you quote from the article (page numbers, quotation marks, etc.). Be sure to proofread your work. The quality of the writing will be judged in addition to the content.
All work must be your own. Consulting with/getting help from others, copying other people’s work, or taking information from the Internet are considered forms of plagiarism. This is a type of academic dishonesty and is a violation of University policy. Student works that are plagiarized will be given a 0 (zero) on the assignment and the student may risk possible further sanctions (such as an F in the course, charges before Student Conduct, or removal from the program).
